As an Australian Government Agency, Questacon is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (the Privacy Act), which regulates how agencies collect, use, disclose and store personal information, including sensitive information, and how individuals may access and correct records containing their personal information.

Questacon respects the right to privacy under the Privacy Act and complies with Privacy Act requirements in relation to the collection and management of personal information.

MailChimp and Privacy Consent

Please note, this statement only relates to subscribers of the e-News and Q Shop email lists.

[To provide our eNewsletters to you] we use MailChimp, a reputable company* which provides online platforms that can be used to create, send, and manage emails. In providing this service, MailChimp may collect personal information, such as distribution lists which contain email addresses that Members have sent, or intend to send, emails to, and all information relating to those email addresses. For further information about the type of personal information MailChimp collects, please refer to their Privacy Policy.

MailChimp will use this information for the purpose of hosting the online platform to enable members (such as Questacon) to create, send and manage emails. MailChimp will also use this information to measure their Email Campaign’s performance and to improve the features for specific segments of customers, evaluate your use of our website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. MailChimp may transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on MailChimps's behalf. MailChimp uses cookies, Web Beacons and Flash player code to collect information about when you visit the website, when you use the services, your browser type and version, your operating system, and other similar information.

Vision6 and Privacy Consent

To provide Questacon Members News to Questacon (Q Club) members we use Vision6, a company which provides online platforms that can be used to create, send, and manage emails. All personal information collected by Vision6 is protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). All of your personal information and subscriber data is stored on servers within Australia only. PRIVACY COLLECTION STATEMENT AND CONSENT

Questacon is a Division of The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (the Department) and as such is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) outlined in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). These principles regulate how Questacon collects, uses, discloses and stores personal information.

The personal information collected within the Questacon Invention Convention (Invention Convention) Expression of Interest will be used to contact people about future Questacon events and programmes.

The personal information collected within the Enterprising Australians webform will be used to contact people about opportunities to participate in the Enterprising Australians programme (where consent is provided).

The information will only be used for the purposes outlined above, except where authorised or required by law. For further information, please refer to the Department’s Privacy Policy.

Personal Information obtained will be stored and held in accordance with Questacon’s obligations under the Archives Act 1983 (Cth).

Questacon respects your rights to privacy under the Privacy Act and we comply with all the Privacy Act’s requirements in respect of collection and management of personal information.

Conditions of Entry

Visitors to Questacon have a shared responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. In accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act, visitors are to:

  • Take responsible care of their own health and safety;
  • Take reasonable care to ensure they do not adversely affect the safety of others; and
  • Comply with all instructions given by Questacon staff so far as they are reasonably able to.

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult (17+) at all times.

Questacon does not accept responsibility for the negligent acts or omissions of visitors.

Food and drink is not permitted in the galleries, theatres or the Q Shop.

Running, skates, skateboards and heely shoes are not permitted in the Centre or on the grounds. Shoes must be worn at all times except on exhibits as signposted or instructed by staff. Objects which may pose a danger to others (umbrellas, camera tripods etc) must be left at the information counter. Locker hire services are available at the information counter.

All visitors to Questacon are fully responsible for the safe keeping and security of their own personal belongings and valuables whilst on our premises. Questacon’s liability to you is exclusively limited to loss and damage caused by a negligent act or omission by Questacon.

“Surveillance cameras monitor and record Questacon premises and exhibits for the purposes of:

  1. internal quality monitoring; 
  2. the security and safety of staff; and
  3. ensuring public safety.

Questacon may give some or all of the information collected by its surveillance cameras to the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, ACT Emergency Services Agency, law enforcement bodies or other agencies or individuals for the above purposes.

The information collected by surveillance cameras will not be used for any other purpose or disclosed to any other person or organisation unless such a use or disclosure is authorised by or under the Privacy Act 1988 or any other laws.
