  • Principles of Neural Science by Kandel et al (1991).
  • Can you Believe Your Eyes? by J. Richard Block and Harold E. Yuke. Published by Gardner Press. A fantastic collection of illusions, ideal for beginners.
  • The Human Brain: A Guided Tour by Susan Greenfield. Published by Harper Collins as part of the Science Masters series. An interesting book about what we do and don't know about our own brains.
  • How Brains Think by William H Calvin. Published by Harper Collins as part of the Science Masters series. This book takes an evolutionary biology approach to examining why our brains are the way they are and how they work.
  • The Eye Beguiled by Bruno Ernst. Published by Benedikt Taschen. This book concentrates on impossible figures and is very thorough, and a little technical.
