Questacon Volunteer Explainers
Explainers have been an important part of the organisation since "The Questacon" opened at Ainslie Primary School. Are you game enough to experience an earthquake or get up close and personal with three and a half million volts of electricity. Do you know your dinosaurs? Can you explain why the sea and the land rise when the moon rotates? Do you have a special interest in science and technology? If so, Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre invites you to join their team as a Volunteer Explainer! You will be challenged by curious young minds wanting to know why and how. Please note, you must be 16 years or older to become a Volunteer Explainer. Do you have what it takes to be a Volunteer Explainer?Volunteer Explainers encourage visitors to get the most out of their visit to Questacon. Activities range from telling a young child which button to push, to communicating complex science to older visitors. We love that our Volunteer Explainers are passionate about science and technology and want to share this with our visitors. We want our Volunteer Explainers to inspire our visitors to be as enthusiastic about science and technology as they are. Questacon attracts people of all ages and backgrounds so you will need to be confident communicating with people from a broad cross-section of the community. You will also need to be patient and be prepared for unusual questions. A rewarding timeVolunteer Explainers receive thorough ongoing training. And apart from the reward of smiling faces, you also get a $10 travel reimbursement for each day you come in, as well as discounts at the Questacon Café and the Questacon Shop. Volunteer Explainers can work up to 16 hours per week and, because we are open 7 days a week, we are able to offer flexible working hours. How to applyIf you’re interested in becoming a Volunteer Explainer, please download an application form (pdf, 64 kB) and mail or fax it in to us.
