Questacon > Other Web Sites > 3rd Science Centre World Congress > Science Shows IIISCWCParallel SessionsScience showsDemonstration of air and water![]() We use scientific instruments or properties to show the characteristics of air and water. For example, a vacuum and balloons are used to present the change of air pressure. Water, indicator (such as phenolphthalein), hydrogen chloride and sodium hydroxide are used to show neutralization. Presenter: Sam Yen, Docent, Sounds electric and sounds physicalThese two shows utilise many performing arts traditions to create a unique performance that incorporates two of the world's most critical educational elements - science and art! Join us and our guest musician for a work in progress showing segments of both of these new shows. Presenter: Scienceworks Public Programs Team, Intercept in the mid airBy using a man-made balloon gun to shoot a flying balloon rocket we discover the compounded effects of lever, slope, screw as well as the utilization of various forces. Presenter: Nelson Chen, Research Assistant, Dr Art's Guide to Planet Earth Dr Art's Guide to Planet Earth is a theater show, book and website: http://www.planetguide.net Presenter: Dr Art Sussman, Project Director, The chemical history of a candleThis show, which is partly based on Michael Faraday's famous 'Christmas Lectures' of 1826, gives examples of approaches to chemistry at a science centre of today. The show will combine the use of simple everyday materials with applications of multimedia techniques, involving the audience in creative, interactive, minds-on situations a practical way. Presenters: Klas Fresk, Executive Director, Tom Tits Experiment, Making sense of sensesDramatic and entertaining hands-on demonstrations of the way that we perceive different sensations such as heat, cold, pressure and more. Presenter: Moshe Rippon, Clore Garden of Science, DinostoryPresenters: The Excited Particles, Good vibrationsI will present a 30 minute science show intended for science teachers and students. During the show I will strike an aluminum rod and explore its patterns of vibration with my fingers alone. I will then demonstrate standing wave vibrations by playing a slinky on a wire, by oscillating a long PVC pipe, and by vibrating a coiled phone cord. Presenter: Dr Paul Doherty, Senior Staff Scientist, Questacon Smart MovesA science, technology, engineering and enterprise careers show utilising multimedia and live theatrical performance.
