Questacon – the National Science and Technology Centre has just turned 15! Questacon has been making science fun and relevant in its own building at Lake Burley Griffin since the bicentennial in 1988. Over four million people have visited Questacon in that time.
Science and technology has changed a lot since 1988, particularly with the advent of computers, and Questacon has moved with the times and stayed relevant. This year we have reached over 1.3 million people, at the Centre in Canberra, and through our travelling exhibitions and programs.
Also celebrating 15 successful years is the Shell Questacon Science Circus, which is our biggest travelling science program. The travelling Science Circus has taken exciting interactive science to rural and regional towns all over Australia. Australian National University science students staff the Circus. Over 200 ANU science scholars have been involved in presenting science with the Science Circus throughout the last 15 years.
Today at Questacon the Hon Peter McGauran, Minister for Science will be launching a publication ‘The Science of Success’, detailing the exciting career achievements of former Science Circus members. The Shell Questacon Science Circus is just one more way that Questacon takes fun and relevant science to the people of Australia.
Former members of the Shell Questacon Science Circus as well as longstanding Questacon staff – many of whom have been with Questacon since 1988, and Science Circus members from every state of Australia will be present at a morning tea celebration at Questacon. Minister McGauran will be present to congratulate Questacon, and the Science Circus on 15 successful science-filled years.
