Predators have come to Canberra! Questacon has been invaded by carnivores: sharks, lions, crocodiles and even predatory insects have taken over the top floor. A life-size crocodile is lunging from the swamp, and an enormous funnel web lies in wait for its next meal. Don’t go too close!
The baleful beasts are all part of the awe-inspiring Eaten Alive – The World of Predators exhibition. The Hon Peter McGauran, MP, Minister for Science will officially launch the Eaten Alive exhibition on Tuesday March 9th, at 9.40AM at Questacon – the National Science and Technology Centre. Eaten Alive was designed and built at Questacon, and will be scaring visitors in Canberra for 12 months, before travelling Australia and the world.
Teeth, claws, tongues, nets, barbs, traps and even water pistols are used by predators to catch their prey. All sorts of predators are thrilling visitors at Questacon. The exhibition contains interactive exhibits relating to lions, slugs, echidnas, death adders and fish. But nothing is more realistic than the Shark Encounter! This unique exhibit allows visitors to descend beneath the sea and wonder at the world of the shark – as well as the wonders of cutting edge animation technology.
The exhibition covers not only the well-known predators, such as great white sharks and big cats, but also those we are less familiar with, such as frogs and insects. It will allow people to discover the similarities between the strategies of apparently very different predators.
By merging the latest robotics with immersive interactive techniques, this exhibition will combine thrills and fascination with education in an awesome and unforgettable experience.
EATEN ALIVE – The World of Predators is now on the menu at Questacon. Exhibition opens 10 March 2004.
