It is only the end of April and Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre is already well on the way to a record breaking year.

So far this year almost 115 000 visitors have experienced the wonder of science and technology at Questacon. This is an increase of 22 per cent compared with the same period in 2004.

Of these visitors more that 23 per cent were from the Canberra region and 62 per cent from interstate. This is already an increase on interstate figures based on last year.

This can in part be attributed to the overwhelming success of Mini Q – fun for 0 - 6 years olds, which was opened in December 2004.

“This was a risky, new and experimental endeavour for Questacon,” said Questacon Director Professor Graham Durant.

“This is the first Questacon exhibition specifically for this age group and the popularity has exceeded all expectations.”

Mini Q offers an opportunity for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school aged children to engage in various types of learning play in environments not commonly available to young children.

Mini Q is also being attributed to our increase in Centre memberships by almost 50 per cent on the 2004 figures.

“It is an exciting time for Questacon, with new exhibitions opening this year we will hopefully build on the already successful year we’ve had,” Professor Graham Durant said.
