Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre is thrilled to have been nominated in the Best Family-Focused Tourism category in The Australian newspaper’s Travel and Tourism Awards 2004.

Questacon is privileged to have been nominated by The Australian. Over 350 000 people visited Questacon in Canberra in the last financial year. Record numbers have already been recorded for the first quarter of the 2004-2005 financial year proving that Questacon’s style of interactive fun with science is more popular than ever.

“I am delighted that we have been nominated for this award. At Questacon our mission is to make science fun and relevant to all Australians, so it is fantastic to be nominated in an award voted for by the general public. Questacon exists to inspire young Australians and the organisation does this not only in Canberra but also across Australia with its various outreach programmes and exhibitions”, said Questacon’s Director Professor Graham Durant.

The unique Questacon building is filled with over 200 hands-on science exhibits including an earthquake house, world-class holograms and a scary six metre slide that goes straight down. Kids love Questacon because it is so much fun, while parents and teachers love to see the children’s eyes being opened to the wonders of science.

Already this year, Questacon has received National Tourism Accreditation and The Financial Review Magazine’s 2004 Corporate Partnership Award in the Outstanding Long-Term category. This second nomination acknowledges the 20-year partnership between Questacon, Shell Australia and The Australian National University for the Shell Questacon Science Circus.
