Questacon in partnership with the Japanese embassy today launched the INNOVATION: a Showcase of Australia Japan Cooperation exhibit and website highlighting the groundbreaking endeavors undertaken by both nations in the fields of science research and innovation.
Opened to the Australian public by His Excellency Mr Hideaki Ueda, Ambassador of Japan and Questacon Director Professor Graham Durant, the interactive exhibit and website takes visitors through a digital journey of the science frontier that is being shaped by Australia and Japan.
Dr Mamoru Mohri, astronaut and Director of Miraikan, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo, was also part of the launch via a pre-recorded message. Miraikan contributed to the development of INNOVATION.
The launch featured an energetic and dynamic performance by the Japanese drum ensemble Wadaiko Rindo.
“Questacon has a long and distinguished history of cooperation with Japan and this travelling exhibit is a testament to the close ties between Australia and Japan,” said Professor Durant.
Questacon’s relationship with Japan began more than 20 years ago, when the government and business community of Japan agreed to fund half of the cost of the building as a bicentennial gift to the people of Australia.
Throughout the year the exhibit will travel to a number of venues around Australia. A duplicate exhibit will also tour in Japan commencing at Miraikan in Tokyo.
