To coincide with the first United Nations Global Road Safety Week, 23-29 April 2007, NRMA RoadZone and Questacon will be tackling road safety at St Francis de Sales Primary School in Woolooware NSW.
The NRMA RoadZone incursion programme investigates and promotes road safety practices and behaviours for all road users - pedestrians, cyclists, passengers and drivers - by exploring the scientific concepts of road safety through an engaging and interactive show.
“Teaching road safety to children at this age is crucial as they are the drivers of tomorrow. Teaching it in a fun interactive way is the key to engaging students. Feedback shows that the programme is making a difference with students developing increased awareness and making better decisions” said John Brown, NRMA Policy Advisor.
“School students participating in this programme will take away some very important messages about the consequences of their behaviour on the road, while also promoting discussion about road safety issues among students in the classroom and at home,” said Questacon RoadZone presenter Stuart Lewis.
“The interactive high energy multi-media show is designed to show the science that takes place in a collision. From showing the protection that helmets provide as opposed to the impact taken by an unprotected head, to safety feature design, the NRMA Roadzone show covers all of these areas,” Stuart Lewis explains.
NRMA RoadZone is a free programme touring Sydney schools for Term 2 2007.
NRMA RoadZone is a joint initiative of Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre and NRMA Motoring + Services. Further information can be found at http://www.questacon.edu.au/html/nrma_roadzone.html
