Cluster of Galaxies

Cluster of Galaxies in Fornax

Galaxies fall into two broad groups, spirals and ellipticals. A spiral galaxy, NGC 1365, is seen in one corner of this group of galaxies in Fornax, 55 million light years away. Most of the others shown here are elliptical galaxies, which can have a shape anywhere between a perfect sphere and a rugby football and are composed of billions of old, yellowish stars.
