The images here were made by David Malin from plates taken on the 3.9m Anglo-Australian telescope (AAT) and the 1.2 m United Kingdom Schmidt telescope (UKST). They were produced by combining images photographed separately in red, green and blue light. These pictures are an accurate reflection of the colours of the universe, much as the eye might see them if it could be made a million times more sensitive.
