Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre was awarded the 2012 Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Award in the Tourist Attraction category.

“This award recognises the quality of the hands on science activities and the consistently high standard of the visitor experience at Questacon,” said Professor Graham Durant, Questacon Director.

In accepting the Award, Professor Durant acknowledged Questacon’s industry partners: the National Capital Attractions Association, National Capital Educational Tourism Project, and 3infun partners, Cockington Green Gardens and the Australian Institute of Sport.

“This honour is highly valued and each year we work hard to improve our offering. This kicks off an exciting year for Questacon and our wonderful city. Along with the Centenary in 2013, Questacon will celebrate its 25th anniversary in November, so we’re gearing up for a massive year of celebrations.

“It’s interesting to reflect on the growth of Questacon and tourism in the region over the past 25 years, and to imagine how different the experiences on offer for visitors will be in 25 years’ time in 2038,” said Professor Durant.

The annual Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Awards aim to showcase the best of the region’s tourist industry organisations and promotes, encourages and rewards tourism excellence.
