At Questacon we believe that knowledge and understanding of science, innovation and technology is critical to a sustainable future. Through our hands-on experiences, national programs, networks, partnerships and website, we communicate directly and indirectly with millions of people each year. By inspiring people to take an interest in science and technology we can promote a better understanding of environmental issues and perhaps inspire the next generation of innovators who will contribute to global sustainability and a better future for everyone.

Questacon also affects the environment through the day-to-day operations of its business.  Significant environmental aspects include energy consumption, water usage and waste generation.  If these aspects of our business are not managed effectively, we not only run the risk of failing to comply with our legal obligations, but we also fail to play our part in reducing pollution and contributing to a safer, cleaner and healthier environment.

Questacon has an Environmental Management System (EMS) that meets international standard ISO 14001-2004. Under the standard, we take a systematic approach to managing the aspects of our business that have a potential impact on the environment.

We are currently transitioning to the new standard ISO 14001-2015. The new standard does not fundamentally change the way Questacon manages its environmental responsibilities, although there are a number of things we have done to improve our environmental management. Specifically, we have:

  • introduced an Environmental Policy that better reflects the context and goals of our organisation;
  • established the Questacon Sustainability Group to improve environmental communications and awareness;
  • completed an assessment of our risks and opportunities to ensure that our Environmental Management System continues to do what we want it to do.

See what else Questacon is doing for the environment.

We are committed to continual improvement so we're always on the lookout for better ways to manage our environmental impact.
