Digital Waterfall

A large, spectacular projection screen displays animated data and information about water on Earth and how humans around the world use water.

Water is a precious resource that we tend to take for granted.

How it works

A large, spectacular projection screen displays animated data and information about water on Earth and how humans around the world use water.

Things to try or ask around the exhibit

  • Which countries have more access to clean water than others?
  • Have you ever noticed dirty water coming out of pipes at home? What would it be like to have that water quality all the time?

Background

Water may seem to be a plentiful, inexhaustible resource, but it is more precious and scarce than we realise. Not all countries in the world have access to clean water. Due to local economies, water treatment infrastructure, agriculture and landscapes in different regions, availability of water can be scarce, or its supply may contain water borne microbes that cause disease in humans and animals.

Finding the science in your world

The next time you turn on a tap or flush a toilet, consider how important it is for your health to have access to clean water and how much work has been invested in harvesting and treating water so it can be supplied to your house.
