Have you ever wondered how simple machines are used to create ingenious inventions? Visit Questacon’s travelling exhibition Innovation Factory – Invent and Play to learn how robbers can break into a safe by cracking a cam lock, play ‘rock, paper, scissors’ using electrical circuits or find your way through a maze using pneumatic pistons.

Innovation Factory is proudly supported by Questacon’s Major Partner Raytheon and captures the spirit of innovation through whimsical technology and simple machines.

Innovation Factory's 18 exhibits focus on how technology makes life easier and challenges the idea that technology is only defined as high-tech electronics. Visitors will play with simple machines such as cams, pulleys, levers, gears, pistons (or pneumatics), wheels and electricity.

Information banners also describe where you can find simple machines at home, school, work or play, as well as some Australian inventors and some peculiar patents.

The exhibition is also supported by UniSA’s Science • Creativity • Education Studio (Sci • C • Ed), scheduled to open in 2018. It is aimed at children 8 to 14 years, but can be enjoyed by all ages.
