Broderick Matthews

A/g Deputy Director and General Manager, Operations
A person wearing a burgundy blazer and white shirt stands on a stage in front of dark blue curtains. Purple and blue stage lighting illuminates the scene, with the person positioned slightly off-centre and facing the camera.

Broderick Matthews is the A/g Deputy Director and General Manager of Operations at Questacon. He is responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of all Questacon’s local, national and international activities. With an office inside the Questacon building, Broderick loves working in the heart of our National Triangle and is focussed on making it easier for more people to access inspirational science and technology.

Previously, Broderick has worked in a variety of roles focussed on STEM outreach and engagement with Questacon, Department of Defence and The Australian National University. Across this work, he played a key role in many STEM initiatives including the Questacon Science Circus, STEM X Academy and the Defence STEM Council.

Broderick began his exploration in science at Flinders University shining lasers on ink to complete his honours in forensic chemistry. But he was lured into the world of science communication, joining Questacon in 2009 and touring Australia with the Questacon Science Circus. During his time at Questacon, Broderick has enjoyed travelling through much of regional and remote Australia, catapulting cream pies, running on slime and playing bagpipes all in the name of science.

Broderick holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and Graduate Diplomas in Science Communication and Scientific Leadership.

In his spare time Broderick enjoys trivia, playing volleyball and a trip to the beach. He met his wife, Jill, through the Questacon Science Circus and they have three kids, all under 6, who thoroughly enjoy a visit to Mini Q.
