What you’ll do

Our work experience program covers a bit of everything! As part our our work experience team, you’ll learn how to:

  • create positive and meaningful experiences at Questacon from our Visitor Service and Programs staff
  • engage with the public through work in our gallery and retail spaces
  • take part in developing and demonstrating STEM-related activities
  • engage the public in questions about science and technology.

What you’ll get from us

As part our our work experience team, you’ll receive:

  • ongoing training and support
  • a certificate of completion
  • a $10 travel reimbursement for each day you come in
  • invitations to all our major events
  • discounts at the Atomic Café and the Questacon Shop.

Key dates

Our work experience program takes place over 5 days during ACT school terms 2 and 3.

The 2022 program will run from:

  • 20 to 24 June 2022 (Week 10, Term 2)
  • 1 to 5 August 2022 (Week 3, Term 3)
  • 8 to 12 August 2022 (Week 4, Term 3).

Applications close at 11:55 PM on 19 June 2022.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be in year 10, 11 or 12 and be participating in a school-sponsored work experience program. You must also be at least 16 years old.

Covid-19 vaccination

As part of our work experience program, you may need to work with children who can’t be vaccinated. In line with the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, as a work experience student you must be up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations, as defined by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.

You will need to provide proof of vaccination, which may include:

  • a vaccination certificate (an Australian Government COVID-19 digital certificate or COVID passport)
  • information from a government health body
  • information from your regular doctor (GP) or treating specialist.

You will need to tell us:

  • what school year you are currently in
  • your school name and contact details
  • your availability to complete the work experience program
  • why you would like to participate in work experience at Questacon in 150 words or less.

Limited places are available in the program, so submitting an application does not guarantee a placement.

When you apply, you will get an acknowledgement email. Unfortunately, we will only contact those who are successful.
