Mini Q—fun for 0-6 year olds

Mini Q—fun for 0-6 year olds is a custom-built environment for little scientists. Each zone in Mini Q encourages carers and their young children to explore their environment through a process of observation, prediction, testing and refining. These processes are used by little (and big) scientists to learn about the world around them, inspire imagination, and develop confidence.

Please note: All visitors will need to register with the Check In CBR app on arrival. So you can start your session on time, please consider downloading the app prior to your visit. If you are not able to use the Check In CBR app, we will manually record your contact details on arrival.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book a Mini Q session?

From 21 June 2021 Mini Q will be included with general admission entry. To ensure safety requirements are followed and physical distancing can be observed, visitor numbers in Mini Q will be limited and session times will be in place during peak periods.

As a Questacon Member, do I need to pay for a ticket to Questacon?

The usual benefits of Q Club membership, including free unlimited entry, are currently on hold. All memberships will be extended to compensate for time lost during the COVID-19 closure and our current visitor offering.

Q Club members are welcome to attend any available sessions, but will be required to pay the discounted general admission fee. Tickets must be pre-booked online.

If you have any questions about your Q Club membership, please contact our membership team for assistance.

How has the Mini Q experience changed?

While we are still offering an interactive and immersive experience, a visit to Mini Q will be different. To ensure the health and safety of staff and visitors, and appropriate physical distancing, the Active Play and Space Lab exhibits will remain closed for now.

Our staff are ready to engage and facilitate hands-on learning for little scientists. Children will be able to explore the world around them by participating in role-play and hands-on activities. Children will play, discover and have the opportunity to ask lots of questions in a friendly and inclusive environment.

Our safety measures include the removal of smocks from the Water Play area of Mini Q. Please bring a spare change of clothes or your own smock to use. We have also removed all fluffy toys and are instead providing toys that are easier to clean, in line with our COVID cleaning protocols.

For our COVID-19 safety measures please see our FAQs page.

What facilities are available in Mini Q?

Mini Q has its own bathrooms and baby change facilities. Questacon is a breastfeeding-friendly institution and you are welcome to breastfeed anywhere in the Centre. We have a dedicated space in Mini Q for breastfeeding and bottle feeding, including microwaves to use for heating breastmilk or formula if required.

Can I bring my pram into my Mini Q session?

Due to safety and space limitations, we are unable to have prams within Mini Q. There is limited pram parking available at the front of the gallery.

Can I bring food or drink to my Mini Q session?

No food or drink is permitted in any of our gallery spaces. You are welcome to bring food to enjoy outside the Centre before or after your session. Atomic Café has reopened if you wish to buy a coffee, snack or light meal.

Carer and Early Childhood Teacher Notes

We have developed supporting notes for Mini Q that outline developmental play zones and key curriculum links for carers and early childhood teachers. These documents can be downloaded in Word and PDF formats.
