About
INTERSECT, Darwin’s STEM Educator Network, invites educators, artists, and STEM professionals to come together at the CDU Radicle Centre to explore how collaboration across disciplines can strengthen teaching and provide new approaches to engage learners. This event will explore the intersection of sustainability in education, with a focus on practical ways to enrich teaching practices to provide our community with real-world learning experiences.
This INTERSECT meeting features a hands-on workshop by Dr Aya Matsuyama from PLabs, who will lead a taster of ‘The Possible World’, an immersive simulation game exploring the UN Sustainable Development Goals. During this introduction to ‘The Possible World’, participants will experience how decision making, personal choices, and shared responsibility can be used to explore complex global challenges and support engaging, real-world learning.
Following the taster workshop, the Science Teachers Association of the NT (STANT) will facilitate a discussion focused on applying sustainability and game-based learning in the classroom, including practical links to the curriculum, including literacy and numeracy outcomes.
Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the sustainability themed activities from CDU’s Radicle Centre, showcasing their place-based, NT focused learning experiences, and can learn how these activities can be implemented in the classroom and extended across year levels.
